Ok so today was my first appointment at Leeds GIC, my mum came with me and we got the quarter past 12 train so we were in Leeds for quarter past 1 then got a taxi to the hospital which only took about 15minutes so that meant we were really early. We had a drink and waited.
We went round to where my appointment was and waited for me to be called in. Gary (my personal care co-ordinator) came to collect me and took me to a room where i met the doctor,he wasn't wearing a suit or behind a desk so it was a lot less formal than i've experienced before. It was nice. He asked me the usual how long i've felt this way, what i want from them, have i done anything to start transition. When i told him i'd changed my details on everything and started T he said i seem like i was confident in what i wanted.
You have to have 6 sessions before any referrals for surgery or anything wil go ahead which i knew. He said cos i'm on T and had all my documents changed i'm a lot further on than most people so my sessions might be less, i told him i was just happy being there and i'll go along with what they suggest. My next appointment is on the 17th February with Gary, not sure what will happen then.
He asked me about my disability and he asked if surgery would make being independent easier for me which i said yes cos i wouldn't have to bind.
Overall it went really well. Gary told me i can claim my train tickets back after 3 month or summat.
This is a blog about my transition. I hope it helps you if you're struggling with your feelings and what not. Please note my experiences are my own and not that of other trans people.
